Mentoring / Coaching
Mentoring is a professional relationship in which an experienced person (mentor) assists another (protégé) in developing specific skills and knowledge that will enhance the less experienced person’s professional and personal growth. While many leaders demonstrate mentoring behavior on an informal basis, it is different from having a structured mentoring program. There is a qualitative difference, such that the mentor does not evaluate the protégé with respect to his/her current job performance.
Organizations have to recognize that workforce demographics have changed dramatically. Women and members of various minority groups have an increasing presence in leadership roles in the workplace. The goal of this class is to have participants understand the value of using customized mentoring programs as a tool to develop various types of future leaders.
